HPL/Phenolic
High Pressure Laminate or Phenolic Resin is relatively costly but an excellent material for making Laboratory furniture. HPL is made with resin and paper impregnated under high pressure and heat forming a material that is very strong, resistant to water and highly durable. Both standard and chemical resistant HPL sheets are available for use in Laboratory.
Laminated Plywood
Laminated Plywood is extensively used in furniture industry. It is an excellent core material for use in laboratory furniture as the plywood is generally stronger and more resistant to moisture than chipboard and MDF. The lamination process that bonds the laminate sheet to plywood creates a strong external surface, suitable for use in laboratory. Laminate surface is resistant to mild chemicals, scratches and normal wear.
Laminated MDF
Laminated MDF is another economical and largely used material for manufacture of furniture. It has slightly better qualities than MFC. Laminated MDF is water resistant to an extent, but prolong exposure to moisture makes it vulnerable.
Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC)
MFC is most common core material used in manufacture of furniture. The melamine coating on the surface of MFC make it an economical option for laboratory furniture. MFC surface is versatile and resistant to scratches and liquid stains. MFC surface is not suitable for labs that use harsh chemicals or that have wet and humid environment.
